Blurry photo but I think the problem, or at least one of the problems, is obvious?

Re: M40B18 refresh & bringing it back to life

So I went ahead and removed that piece of hose for the emissions control - was falling apart - and blocked the port using a small piece of rubber hose with one end capped with a steel ball. Made no difference unfortunately. Drove the car and apart from the misfiring symptoms it appears as completely...

Re: M40B18 refresh & bringing it back to life

As with most of these videos, all I can hear is what sounds like a reasonably healthy diesel engine! You're quoting the odometer in km, so I suspect this is not a UK car, and your user name might also be a clue? Do you have a lambda sensor on this car? It would be unusual to have one on a UK car, b...

M40B18 refresh & bringing it back to life

Hello, Recently I decided to tackle my dad's E30, to bring back a bit of the engine's lost power. We have registered it as "Antique" here so it's like staying in the family forever.. Car's an E30, M40B18, with exactly 300000km on the odo. The engine has never been tampered with, other than the usual...

Re: Tracing an issue on the fender trafficator. Not a bulb i

Many thanks. Took a while to trace the wires behind the glovebox, because they were tucked somehow behind the speaker cover. The AC installer apparently forgot to plug it back. All sorted, many thanks for the help.

RHD car, the problem bulb is on passenger's side (Left side), behind the glovebox. I will check and report back many thanks!

Re: Tracing an issue on the fender trafficator. Not a bulb i

Ok, I verified today that neither ground or 12v work at the bulb base. The contacts are clean and the rubber boot is surprisingly in good condition. The trafficator in question is the one at the passenger's side. I have a suspicion that it is not connected inside the car. Car had an A/C fitted aroun...

Re: Tracing an issue on the fender trafficator. Not a bulb i

Lol yes :) it's the wing repeater in question! I will check again the bulb holder, if it turns ok, what should be the next step? Also, shouldn't the lights blink at a higher frequency since the bulb is out?

Tracing an issue on the fender trafficator. Not a bulb issue

Good evening everyone. Posting via mobile so I can't really do a proper search.. my e30's right fender trafficator stopped working. At first I thought it was the bulb (original fitted since 1989), replaced but nothing. Still wont light up. The trafficator still blinks at normal speed even with that ...

What about those odometer repair gear sets that they are on ebay? Worth a try or should I go straight for a used cluster?

Re: Odometer not working

I have the same issue, my motometer's odometer is stuck at 225543km. Everything else work fine though, if I get a used one, it has to be from same engined car with km/h or they're the same as long as its Motometer?

Re: Question about blower fan, works only on stage 4

Fan is brand new, fitted it a few weeks ago, but I could not remember if there was a resistor in there It IS the resistor. It is fairly easy to get to it. It is possible to clean with contact cleaner and it MAY work. Best to simply buy a new one and clip it in - which is what i did in 10 min. Order...

The location of the resistor is for non-aircondition models, what about the ones with AC ?

Edit, is this one? Part 19

Question about blower fan, works only on stage 4

Hi, first of all, I apologize if this has been covered before, I searched and also went through the wiki but I can't seem to find the answer I want. All of a sudden, my blower fan only works at stage 4. Stages 1,2,3 are completely dead. I can only imagine 2 things, either the switch or the final sta...

Does this sound like a failing water pump?

Hi, decided to track a noise coming from the engine, near the camshaft belt / water pump area. It is rpm depended and sounds like a rubbing sound between metals. Timing belt with tensioner was replaced 3 years ago / 20000km, water pump was replaced 9 years ago. What do you think? If you carefully li...

Re: Almost done with OEM AC Install. Question for Idle setti

Car was bought new back in 1989 so I'm sure that the wiring loom has never been tampered. Is there a possibility the socket near the ECU not to be there? Car was bought with no power windows, aircon, power steering or radio if it matters.

NICE!

Pin 40. I have the Motronic 1.1 from what I understand (and remember), serial ending in 157. So it's just as simple as giving 12v to that pin. Only thing I have to dismantle that chunky plug?

Almost done with OEM AC Install. Question for Idle setting

I remember seeing this somewhere but searching doesn't seem to help much. I finally managed to source all parts required to retrofit the OEM AC unit on my 1989 M40 318i E30. I left all parts to an installer but there is one thing that I want some clarifications. How does the idle increase when the A...

Re: Engine Misfiring every few seconds only on idle/warm

Yes they are the factory injectors, never touched. Apart from normal servicing and a couple of water pumps & intake boots, all other parts are still original (until the service it's undergoing now). Unfortunately I'm not in UK but I will add the injector rebuild/calibration in the list too! Thanks

Does the temperature sensor on the head affect mixture preparation? I will have a look at it thanks! I will also need to have somebody check the fuel pump if its working properly, maybe change the relay as a precaution too

Engine Misfiring every few seconds only on idle/warm

Hi! Have been trying to figure the source of a problem; Once warm AND on idle only (only when these two conditions are valid), engine starts to shake for 4-5 seconds and then becomes normal. After a while, it starts shaking again for 4-5 seconds and then again back to normal. It will repeat this for...

Re: Having a mare with removing struts.

I don't know if the process is the same as on the E46, but on my E46, I didn't have to remove the ball joint at all in order to take the strut out.

If it really needs to come out, even with a regular 3-point jaw puller you can do the job.

Will an LHD AC Evaporator/Fan/Box Assembly fit an RHD car?
