many thanks guys
I like the sound of willnz suggestion with the blade, maybe a couple of taps with a rubber mallet and it might just move out without ripping the sump gasket with it.
cheers

Re: oil pump housing
Hi guys thanks for the replies. It's not the filter housing that has the gasket problem it is the oil pump housing that runs off the crank shaft.

Howdee fellas, My 3.18i touring is just back from failing her mot (as expected). She has a serious oil leak and although it wasn't a fail for that reason I don't see any point in adressing the fails until the oil leak is remedied. The leak is due to a gasket breakout from btween the the oil pump hou...

Re: oil leak in one hell of a spot
Hi and thanks for replying No I'm almost certain that it is the gasket behind the oil pump housing that mates to the front of the engine block. I would need to remove the oil sump pan to gain access to the lower oil pump housing bolts. However I'm very aware that when I remove the oil pump housing f...

flood mode?
Hi folks, I'm planning on doing a compression test on my 3.18i witht the M40 engine and I'm wondering if these units have a flood mode? i.e if I have the accelerator right down on turning the key will it suspend fuel being sent to the injectors? It would make the process of testing much quicker as I...

Re: What is this piping for?
Thanks for the replies fellas, I've been away all week so have just checked the post. Cheers for your input, it looks like it is the for the idle control as is does lead to a unit at the back of the engine. I've ordered new and hopefully this will help her run more smoothly. Cheers folks Murdo

What is this piping for?
Hi folks, quick question for you; what are the two pipes that weave themselves through the intake manifold, one is connected to the underside of the throttle body intake and the other is connected to the rubber air intake boot via a small 90 degree elbow? I have an E30 3.18i with the M40 engine. The...

Re: sudden increase in fuel consumption- help needed!!

I'm pretty sure the she is running rich; I can smell petrol out of the exhuast, probably very rich as I only got 23mpg on my last full tank!! Nightmare...

Re: sudden increase in fuel consumption- help needed!!
cheers for getting back to me fellas, Mr Benn, yes I have checked the air filter, it seemed fine and was replaced last year. I shook out what little stoor there was. I was planning on driving it without the filter in for a short run but so far it has been raining when I've had time to try that. Mr L...

sudden increase in fuel consumption- help needed!!
Hi folks, I have a '93 3.18i touring, I use it daily for commuting to work, approx 50miles a day round trip with 80% on motorway usually at 65-70mph. After accidentally making a bow wave through a pond on the A8 the car has not been running well, I'm down on power and my fuel consumption has probabl...

Re: What got you into E30's?
I wanted to go on a road trip round Northern and Eastern Europe, I needed something reliable with some baggage space and cheap. I bought a '91 3.18 touring for £290 (with 1 months mot, which I then put her through with no faults) having not seen any pics on her on ebay, haha. I wasn't in the country...

Re: Pink pink when braking
Hi Brian, thanks again for the input, I'm going to try and put some kind of botched small bracket, maybe even some coils of wire around the back of the hinge pin to trap it's movement. I'll let you know if it works. Back to the brakes though, I was wondering if it might be an ABS problem as it only ...

Re: Pink pink when braking
thanks again Brianmoooore, it is the car part of the guide that is loose, you know the bit that holds the pin with the c-clip that is attached through the car body panels. The door side of the equation seems fine. I took the whole door off on Saturday for access to the area, but just had to put it b...

Re: Pink pink when braking
Cheers for that suggestion Brianmoooore, i took the wheel off and had a look, its not the back plate, which is rusty but not touching the disc. I also notice a "fffff fffff" sound from the passenger footwell when tapping the brakes?

Pink pink when braking
Hi folks, first time writer long time reader. After a 200mile drive I re-entered the city and had to apply light braking for lights/roundabouts etc. I hadn't had to use the brakes heavily all day. on doing so. I heard a quiet "pink pink" noise like a spring and felt a slight movement on the pedal. T...

3500rpm+ trouble on my 318i
Hi, I have a '91 318i touring which has a noisy tappet that i can just about live with, however on accelerating the engine will only go to about 3800rpm before becoming unpredictable i.e revs increase but with reduced power and acceleration drops, then I'll get a surge of acceleration for about 2-4...
