Re: Best place to drain coolant on a m42?

Cheers Dan, never heard of using traffic film remover tho. I have a bottle of rad flush for the job. I changed the thermostat recently and ended up using two different types of antifreeze. I'll get on the case during the week to save any damage.

Best place to drain coolant on a m42?

As above lads, i want to flush me engine and rad out shortly. Is there a drain plug on the engine block itself? Using the rad plug only seems to drain the rad. I got bored with the search function after an hour

Re: Nothing to learn

Is there an e30zone rival/nemesis? I can picture someone on it now complaining about the zoner they met today!
"Yeah, he was all "i had one of the last 4x4 m3s" so i just humoured him, told him i really wanted one too! Bloody zoners, think they know it all!"

Re: 318is underheating

Thats spot on lads, looks like a visit to gsf is on the cards, do i have to get anything else to do the job (gasket,o-ring,etc.)?
This might work out cheaper than a jumper yet! :)

318is underheating

Where should the needle sit in the temp guage? Mine never strays far from the blue area and i think the hot air blower should be hotter, it takes ages to clear me windows.
Could my thermostat be stuck open?
Or is this how it should be?

Gear knob fitting

Just got me a new gear knob for the is, and was wondering the correct fitting procedure? Was told to just pull on it an it'll come off, but the new one looks like theres some sort of clip stuck on the inside??
Just dont want to do damage, knowing my luck that'll happen.
Cheers!

Re: My Major Balls up of the Day!! Can You Beat It??

A friend of mine (honest!) changed the diff on an old rwd starlet, tightened everything up, jumped in started the car, and took off through the end of the shed, wrecking shed and car! He had bolted the diff in upside down  I put new taps on a 208ltr barrel, tipped it on its side and started fill...

Re: donuts

My 316i (open diff, standard susp.) used to donut on gravel ok but i couldnt get it round on tarmac, the inside wheel would just spin and knock like a b*st*rd! Im cursed with mechanical sympathy though, had to give it up!
It handled like it was twelve foot high and full of water, kinda miss it now :?

Re: Jerky ride

Dont think its the engine, it does hunt for a short while when cold, doesnt last long tho. I'd say its transmission related, feels like the diff has waaay too much backlash in it, Hence i thought it could be the diff mount. Gear stick also fairly loose, but its like that since i got it (nov 2005) it...

Daimlerman, cheers for that, looks like im gonna have to invest in some axle stands. Job sounds like hardship tho. at least i have access to presses etc.
Wullie, how do you check preload on a prop? Would that take some of the lash outta it?

Jerky ride

How do you know if your diff mount is worn? My 316i is very jerky in slow/town traffic 1st and 2nd gear, and my stiff go pedal doesnt help. I havent had a chance to put it up on a ramp yet to check it out (its on the list!). Or could it be wear in my gearbox/diff? Fed up of looking like a tool goin ...

E36 seats fit E30?

I desperately need a drivers seat for my e30 318is, and have been offered one from an E36 318is by a breaker in england. Before i shell out the dollars i want to be 100% sure it'll just bolt straight in. Does anyone know if it will? Or even if its the same seat(93 E36 318is)?
Cheers!

I have the same problem, drivers footwell carpet gets very wet. I left a friend in the car during very heavy rain recently and he said it was coming in the bottom of the door. Had to check myself then. Bad door seals maybe?
