Guess I count as a newbie! I work in management consultancy and use my E30 daily. The clients love seeing the car and it also provides a nice talking point. Bought it to keep another car I have off the road so much. I enjoy driving it as much as possible - imo so much more enjoyable than today's car...

1990 325i noise on start up

In the last couple of days the car has developed a medium pitch 'screech' on start up that last for two seconds immediately following engine start/key release. Once started the car drives fine. I've yet to look and listen under the bonnet as can only get an assistant tomorrow. Grateful if anyone can...

Changing front discs and pads - a thank you

Me and a mate have just changed the front discs and pads on my 1990 325i. Wanted to say thanks to all on here because the guidance posted made it a straightforward job for a mech. numpty like me. We had it all done in 2 hours! The allen bolt on one of the old discs wouldn't budge but one lump hammer...

total power loss tonight - advice or ideas please

1990 325i manual box on the way home tonight, dash lights go very dim, ABS warning comes on, then dash dims to nothing as do dipped beam. Stick hazards on and aim for nearest off road car park, hazards flick off and on, indicators don't work, get off the road and engine dies, though dipped beam come...

Driving it more the vibration is more apparent on take off/initial acceleration, which might suggest a problem w...

how do I remove the headrests from seat?

Well I've tried everything. Is there an easy way to pulling the headrests out of the seat as for me they just get to the top of travel and then stick - the headrest just won't move any further. Am swapping seats hence the need.

Thanks in advance.

325i vibration after propshaft centre bearing changed

not sure whether the two are linked but I picked up the car after having a new propshaft centre bearing and doughnut put in. Under acceleration, and particularly noticeable in second gear, there is a vibration/ thrumming coming from the rear. Not very loud - I think I can still hear slightly it in t...

As I understand it the car has separate circuits and thus fuses for operating electric windows and sunroof depending on whether the keys are in ignition/engine running or keys are out and doors open.

So it might be that the fuse for the first circuit is blown, but not the second.

Just a note to say that you will need to remove the exhaust and tunnel heatshield to access the propshaft centre bearing on a standard E30. Once all this is out the way then it's a reasonably easy job to do though. Make sure you preload the new bearing by moving it towards the front of the car unde...

Re: judder on take off?

possibly the prop centre bearing has gone, cheap and easy to replace if it is. jack up the car and look to see if the rubber bush has torn away from the bearing.is it a knocking on the floor just behind the front seats? it tends to knock on acceleration. 1990 325i 4 door saloon. Occasionally when moving off I get three or four short thuds. The noise then disappears and may not happen for a day or so.
