The problem.... http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll16/Jesus325i/109_7016.jpg Virtually the same as the one I was involved in. Only that had blown out the exhaust side, confusing the owner into thinking it was the manifold gasket. It had also blown a clear path between the bores. Is this getting b...

No its been good as gold since that incident, it hasn't covered many miles (but has been used a lot) as it only goes out Sundays to tear up the British conuntryside, but it is usually slow driving with very little airflow so the cooling system has to do all the cooling (as opposed to lots of throug...

Ah. Apologies, bad move to log in after an age and go straight to the last page! So it's got pretty hot but hasn't over heated again? How many miles has it covered after this event? A steel straight edge across the block with some feeler gauges, see what you find. Same on the heads. I still say it's...

From what I learnt and was told from way back? This has not overheated (unless I've missed something in the thread) and therefore, as long as the correct loosening sequence has been followed, it's doubtful the heads are that far out. Skimming is only a matter of course to ensure things are as good a...

JEEEEEEZUS!!!!!!. How you doing? Just seen this, not logged in for many moons. I did a head job on a 2001 Y 4.6 P38 a couple of years ago. It had 190k up and was puffing out the manifold side of the head gasket on the right hand bank. On removal, it had also burnt a path from the front cylinder to t...

I had Avons on my last e39. Ditchfinder's that were ditched very quickly in favour of Kuhmos. Which transformed the car. On my experience, I pass on any Avons when I'm now searching for tyres.

Brians right. It'll be a worn damper or the top mount has given up. Unfortunately, BMW's sport suspension settings hate speed humps, pot holes and the general shite state of UK roads. All of mine that have had sport suspension have needed comprehensive work due to where I live and Surrey councils re...

Re: E39 door handle
Remove the black oval access cover in the rear door edge. Through that you'll see a gold tab (thats the end of the slider securing the handle in place) with a small hole in end. You need to tap that slider forward to release the outer handle. Refixing the new one is easier with the door panel remove...

Personally? I find the difference between non switchable and switchable like night and day. It transforms a basic auto box into a much more interesting / usable thing. While it'll never be a manual, it gives much greater flexibility.

Alpina wheels anyone? http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-e30-Original-ALPINA-wheels-and-ALPINA-steering-wheel-/222158864286? And they are not staggered. Looks like you can just buy the handle Mo. Going on a 2006 model: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/en/showparts?id=EK32-EUR-02-2006-E64-BMW-630i&diagId=41_1582 About £30-£40 for a primed one (RH = 51216961444). All you gotta do is have it rewrapped. P.S These look so much better in silver than white!!!!! 8O

Forget the wire wheels for now as they will only help you ONCE you know the full extent. Get under there with a good strong screwdriver and go at the areas hard. Before you spend any more on parts you need to decide whether you are prepared to spend the £500ish required to get the welding done. Ben THIS.
