The FPR was perfect, it was the injectors that were the problem, possibly the breather pipe aswell, once those were rebuilt/replaced I damaged the FPR but obtained a drastic increase in mpg even with the damaged FPR. I had 3 leaking injectors but the car starting/driving smoothly etc, emissions were...

I've driven both, much prefer the e36, the only thing I prefer in terms of the M5 is the sound.

I think the m3 would also be a good investment .

We've learnt something new from this - that a FPR can be damaged by connecting the fuel pump to its outlet side. This happens quite often, following an engine change, when people forget which way around the hoses were, but this is the first time I've heard of a regulator being damaged. A fuel press...

So to conclude, FPR was the issue, now replaced, running perfect and return 30+mpg

Yes without the clamp it retains pressure now. Originally it was dropping to 0 with 2-3 seconds from turning the car of.

From what I've seen recently 6k is getting you a car that will need a resto, not sure what it's like in the mainland but quality cars are very rare and now commanding a premium.

If its a solid car, reasonably rust free, with history, then it is worth the coin imo

I used a corcoli pump from carparts4less, it was cheap and looked good quality.

Another symptom was a slightly higher idle if that helps.

And just to confirm, the returning hose is indeed that attached to the regulator itself? Silly question I know but I want to get this diagnosed today and a new one ordered if necessary.

A suck on the vaccum hose going to the air intake from the FPR should confirm it?
