Re:

Been following this build for what feels like forever, I've got to say I'm incredibly impressed with the thought and reasoning that has gone into the whole project. Everything looks to be beautifully made and carefully thought through and getting 300 brake out of a little 1.8 engine is an amazing ac...

Re: ARP rod bolts installed in S50

Uwe, I'll say this only one more time: I am sorry I bothered you with a little more technical detail than you wanted. I can assure you it was posted with the best of intentions and I had hoped it would make your work with stretch bolts easier in future. I made a specific effort to present my explan...

Re:

Great topic, and Geoff, just read your e30/R5 build. Excellent craftsmanship and stunning attention to detail. Hopefully you can get it on the road in SA - although as you say it's not really suitable for the road, the ability to do shakedown testing on local roads has to be a huge advantage. Please...

Woah! Awesome fabrication there!

Bet she'll go like the proverbial, nice smooth bends, you've clearly given a lot of thought to airflow, great to see such attention to detail!

Good luck - hope she goes as good as she looks!

Re: Top speed of the e30 chassis

WRT the CFD mentioned earlier; you can't do that on an e30, the modelling would be horrendous and then running the model takes days on professional mainframes even with simple components. would cost serious money and even then the results would have to be verified in a wind tunnel. Your best bet fro...

Lol, I bought my 205 GTI via a note under the windscreen, it's in great condition and was a bit of a steal! Guy and his wife had decided to flog it the day before I left the note! Probably the best advice, especially on rural roads.

having said that, my last cracked windscreen was from a quarry truck driving the other way!

Re:

Alex, have you considered glueing your intercooler together or at least the end cans to the core? I found some Loctite epoxy with absurd strength (something like 20N/mm^2 adhesion to clean aluminium, tensile test. Stronger in shear), it was also stable to well over 100degC, resistant to water and o...

Stitch welding is like seam welding (as in you weld along all the joins in the chassis) but instead of doing it in one long line, you weld for say 30mm, leave a 10mm gap and then weld for another 30mm, etc etc. I could go into detail but its a pain in the arse to explain in the internet, any good bo...

Re: Power handling of the E30 chassis

For what it's worth (as a general bit of information) fully seam welding a shell will quickly lead to cracks, due to the build up of stress risers. What you really want to do is stitch weld, which reduces the number of risers and is just as stiff. Max respect by the way for driving such a monster!!!!
