To be fair the cost of the part was £130 (I checked on Euro Car Parts website). So he's charging me £50 for the fitting plus the VAT. Prob is expensive but what can you do when your car is sitting 60 miles from it's home looking sad and dejected (apart from walk round it with a litre of unleaded...

OK, well can anyone suggest a decent garage or specialist 'Dahn Sarf' who might be able to look at the beast and come up with some suggestion and (honest) advice? Or, given that I am due to spend about £600 getting the paintwork down should I just sell it and buy something that's had all the work ...

Well, it's hard to put into words how incompetent I am mechanically so let me draw you a mental picture... Imagine a chimp, high on a cocktail of speed and coffee and waving a hammer around in the Antique Porcelain section of the British Museum... Perhaps though a £1k is a bit rich for my pocket.....

I did check what selection the gear was in and it was in 'P'. I even went up and down the selectors a few times to be sure... I fear the HG might be about to give on me... dunno how much that'll cost. It may be better to just cough up and get a rebuild done (see my other post today)... or, maybe I'l...

Engine Rebuild

Hello all...

Any ideas how much an Engine Rebuild would be for an '89 F 325i SE Auto?

Or, am I better of getting a recon engine?

Ta,

DB.

Car died at w/e - a saga!

Hi All, I went to see a 320 Cab at the w/e in Kent. Nice car, considered making an offer, had g/f waiting (fuming actually, we were on our way to Wales and made a bit of a detour to see the car... women, tsk!) in my '89 325i SE Auto so decided to think about it... Got back into my car, turned key in...

Wheels are offset e24 (and are original). Maybe it is that the suspension is shagged! 8O As if things aren't bad enough I was due to take the Beast up to Wales this w/e and it wouldn't start... had to take the g/f's MX-5! How embarrassing! (Incidentally the engine is turning but not kic...

Great, that's like saying you know someone who would do it for free and let their 21yo wife blow me while I'm waiting, but he lives in Osaka, Japan...

Mind you, for that kind of service it's probably worth a drive over!

Cheers all...

I'll check out the offset this evening.

Actually, I think the car looks better with slightly narrower tyres. It would be a shame to lose the Bridgestones though as they are practically brand new...

When I get round to swapping them I'll pop 'em on here for sale.

Cheers,

DB

Thanks for the speedy response. The rims are def genuine BBS (well, they are stamped BMW on the inside!).

I will check out the offset at the w/e...

Alloy Refurbs

Hi,

I would like to get my BBS alloys refurb'd after I get my car resprayed. The problem is that all the 'reasonably' priced refurb places seem to be in Birmingham!

Anyone know of a good refurb place in London that doesn't charge the earth?

Cheers,

DB

15" BBS look too wide.

Hi Guys, I have an '89 325i SE Auto. I recently swapped out the 14" Bottlecaps for 15" BBS alloys with 205/55/15 Bridgestones SO2's. My question is that on looking at the car the wheels seem way too big for the arches and the rim of the tyre seems to sit almost flush with the bottom of the arch. Als...
