Re: Electric window wires
What I mean is, I'm getting power through both the wires when operating the switches - if that's correct then fair enough, it must be the motors.
Which is terrific news.

Electric window wires
When operating the windows, should both wires be getting power at the motor end? i.e. they operate by reversing polarity?
I ask because both motors seem to have failed simultaneously.
Entirely possible though, they've been dodgy for a while.

Indeed, but the V5 engine number starts with 225 as you'd expect, whereas the block number doesn't...Simon13 wrote:Alex the V5 won't tell you anything apart from the base car model and chassis no.

They're cagey about giving out info these days, though I have a letter from them from the early 90s confirming the spec of mine.old_skool_2002 wrote:Would Sytner themselves know the answer any more?

Mine is equally confusing, it doesn't match with the V5 either. It's got the four numbers in the head, though.old_skool_2002 wrote:Maybe it's a prefacelift thing?

You'll probably have to have them made. I know that badges for my C2 are no longer available, and yours is the same year.
If they were still available, they'd have been £86 each too.
Here's one from a quick Google:

It'll be stupid money, whatever it gets.
Alpina stuff can make people lose their marbles anyway, but these gauges always fetch ridiculous money.

Re: Chipping 318 IS
I fitted a Viper2 chip to my old iS, t'was excellent. As Sharabi says, make sure you get the right one (it depends on the numbers on your ECU).
Opening up the ECU to fit it takes patience, though.
The power gains were minimal, but it gave a smoother response throughout the rev range IMO.

Could just be a dodgy connection. Check connections to the starter motor and the engine earth-to-chassis for corrosion/looseness.
