Re:

Just to add, I have AP Racing CP6720 calipers on a 315x25.4mm disc, offset to within 3mm of the bottom ball joint. The bell is +8mm thicker at the hub face also. This is to allow a stock 16x7.5" ET27 wheel fit. With the effective offset now being ET19, there is an effect on how the car feels. More t...

Re: Brake clearance issues with BBS RS / Wilwood Calipers...

Opposing piston calipers are not compatible with BBS RS. In fact, stock brakes require the removal of the caliper clip to fit BBS RS with a reasonable offset and lip.

Go for the B8, but do yourself a favour and trim the front internal bump stop down to half the length.

Re: Bosch Gen III (EV6) injectors for S14 engines

Your fouling may be because you are running a little richer than stock, and S14s don't like cold starts as it is, the Motronic adds a lot of fuel! Do you run a AFR gauge? Have you tried adjusting the Fuel Quality Switch on the ECU? Your new injectors flow 2.46% more than stock. The FQS has a setting...

Re: CL RC5+ brake pads

Yep, run them on my M3 with AP Racing calipers.

Work well from cold and cope with track use really well.

Not noisy and no where near as dusty as DS3000 I was using.

They are quite loose in the caliper, so rattle a little.

I am also using a split pattern injector, although somewhat larger than stock at 629cc/min. Bosch 0280 158 123 EV14 type with 25deg split and extenders fitted. Whilst economy is not a priority for me, good idle stability and drivability at part throttle is and my S14 with 292/284 cams, drives like O...

Re: Inboard springs on trailing arm to coilover spring rates

It's best to work with wheel rates so you have a constant comparison. To calculate the wheel rate (WR) from spring rate (SR) you need the motion ratio (MR) Front 0.921 Rear 0.64 (stock) Rear 1.04 (Coil Over) WR= MR*MR*SR Example 200lb/in spring on the front 0.921*0.921*200= 169.64 200lb/in spring on...

Nm - Newton metres. It's what people not born in the Jurassic era use instead of ft/lb. 30Nm = 22ft/lb. But anyone can see what 22ft/lb means - pull with a force of 22lb on a socket and tee bar twelve inches long, 44lb on one six inches long, or 11lb on one two foot long, etc. Same thing applies if...

Re:

Go for 2 cool down laps without using the brakes and when you bring the car to a stop, use the gears to bring it down to walking pace and stop it on the handbrake.

It is the periods of stationary hot disc against pad that causes the transfer.

Re: Suspension gurus needed

I believe the 325 spring rates are 106Fr/245Rr, and I don't think the 323 should be be too different. I had the H&R 29664 tested by Faulkner Springs. They are progressive in rate, but at the installed lengths they are stated above. It does seem odd that they would double the front rate and only incr...

Re: Suspension gurus needed

How thick? How thick is the E36 bar? What are your spring rates? It is a really interesting area to delve in to. The way an E30 handles is really dictated by weight transfer and load induced roll. When we get on the power, we get squat and when in a bend we also have roll. The squat causes rear susp...

Re: Suspension gurus needed

The problem is a lack of rear roll stiffness, so adding a stiffer front ARB will not help. Trust me, I have spent the last 10 months trying to arrive at a set of spring rates from AVO to H&R to the Faulkners I have now. I even went to the lengths of producing my own spread sheet from this thread htt...

Re: Suspension gurus needed

FWIW, I had a set of springs custom made by faulkner springs. 150lb/in Fr and 435lb/in Rr.

THis was for an M3 mind you. A 6cyl car may need a slightly higher front rate, say 165lb/in.

Re: Suspension gurus needed

From experience and testing... The H&R springs are way too soft on the rear. As a comparison an M3 has 100lb/in front and 300lb/in rear. The H&Rs are 200lb/in front and 285lb/in rear. When we convert this to the wheel rate we get M3 87fr and 123 rr comapred to H&R 178fr/116rr. What you are experienc...

One question for the OP if he is still tracking this;

What unit of angle is the Roll Angle = (SW x LM) / (Fr + Rr) ? Radians or Degrees?
