Introduction

Fitting opening rear ¼ windows turned out to be a fairly easy job!

Takes approx 1/2hour per side

You will need to source 2nd hand window assemblies, make sure you get the window/body seals too, if your removing them from a wrecked car yourself see if you can also get hold of the body nuts that the closure mechanism screws to on the C pillar. (BMW part number 07.12.9.925.735 Qty 4 off)

Tools needed

8mm socket, long reach advisable

Philips screwdriver

Flat blade screwdriver

Size 11 pair of boots!

Procedure

1. Locate and remove covers over window fixings, bottom one pulls straight off easily

2. Remove screw from top hook, carefully lever off. Push flat bladed screwdriver up from underneath, go gently, you don’t want to slip and rip the headlining!

3. Use a 8mm socket and remove the nuts.

4. You need to gently push the window, working from one side at a time, not quite as shown in the photo. Might help if you have a 2nd person helping from the outside.

5. Half way there now!

6. Next you need to peel back the headlining and remove a section of the padding behind it: -

7. Slip in the body nuts!

8. I replaced the padding previously removed and push a hole through the headlining, lining up with the body nuts behind.

9. Push on the new body/window seal (The old seal will have come away with the old window assembly) Line up the screws on the window and push window into place

10. Loosely replace 2 off nuts previously removed, and attach rear window closing mechanism with 2 off screws, making sure the screws engage properly into the body nuts behind. Close the door and from the outside check the alignment of the window trim with the door. Adjust alignment if necessary, and then tighten all fixings. Replace screw covers.

11. Sit back and admire your handy work!
